Who is this website for?
The constant bustle of city life can make it feel like the great outdoors belongs to a whole seperate universe for us Londoners. For this reason, many of us seek time out from the stresses of the city at the local climbing wall . Whether you experience the calm oasis during the middle of a week day, or the adrenaline powered sweat factory at peak times, the climbing centre never loses its ability to transport you away while you are there.
I built this website with the intention of helping 'casual climber', specifically those of us living in the London area. Contrary to the connotations of the name, the casual climber is regular and comitted. The casual climber has a multitude of aspirations, but they are constrained by a lifetyle which prevents them from taking their climbing career that extra mile. Casual climbers fall somewhere between those who climb sporadically and those who dedicate their lives to the sport. They are most often spotted at the climbing gym at peak times, generally on the same days each week, with the same partner or group of friends, or sometimes even alone in the case of the dedicated boulderers. However, the casual climber must not be mistaken for those who see the sport as an alternative to going to the gym, nor those opting for the 'cool' factor of the sport, and definately not that group of friends who use the climbing gym as a convenient place to get together for a chat. The casual climber is dedicated; they will systematically lay aside work, social life and even family for a few hours every week in which they leave the outside world behind to climb. They live two seperate lives: the everyday work life and the climbing life. It takes a lot of effort to keep these two lives in balance, to prevent the scale from tipping too far to one side or the other. This website is aimed to help them maintain that equilibrium, so they can get as much as they can out of their climbing lives at no expense to their other responsabilities.
